Public/community toilets are being provided to families who do not have personal toilets due to lack of space and to those coming from outside/migrants in the village. The 'pay and use' system is also being implemented in some Gram Panchayats. So that, the cleanliness standard of the public toilets is maintained for a sustainable period and the amount received can be used for maintenance and repair. This will help every village to create a clean and beautiful environment in public places. Public toilets are approved taking into account the previous experience with public toilets, the need for public toilets in the village, availability of electricity, water, maintenance and repair facilities, facilities for maintenance and repair costs at the local place, selection of a convenient place for toilet use, guarantee by the Gram Panchayat that the said public toilet will remain in use, etc.
